Jasper Gape - Auckland, New Zealand

Name: Jasper Gape

Location: Auckland, New Zealand

Occupation: DJ / Writer / Webmaster of Nerdy Frames

Online: Nerdy Frames Homepage, Mixcloud, Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter

My name is Jasper Gape and I’m representing Strictly Scene here in Auckland, New Zealand. For the past 14 years I’ve been a DJ and a radio jock in sunny Auckland working on the pirate radio tip for Fleet FM, KFM Radio 106.9 FM and Radio Ponsonby 107.7 FM.

In 2008 I launched the Nerdy Frames blog that has now gotten a huge fan base in America and Germany. I want to use this platform to promote the best from New Zealand dance music and believe me: I know who you should be looking out for from down under!

We want to show off our talent from New Zealand for the fans of Strictly Rhythm because we believe in the artists that we‘ve discovered here in NZ and we want you too to share in our findings!

What's your Strictly Rhythm?

Wink - Higher State Of Consciousness (Tweekin Acid Funk)

Music Scene:

  • In Flagranti – Worse For Wear
  • Kissy Sellout – Wild Romance
  • Johanna Knutsson – Heavy Baby
  • White on Rice – Give Up (Demo from Wellington)
  • Retro/Grade – Moda Single
  • The Naked and Famous – The Sun (Drunken Apache Remix)
  • Greg Churchill – Are You Looking At Me
  • Zowie – Broken Machine
  • Towa Tei – Sunny

International DJ Scene:

We had Moodymann come to Auckland for the first time; The Aston Shuffle and Tittsworth are playing here as well. My wish list of artists I want to see before I die are: Retro/Grade, In Flagranti, Kraak & Smaak, Terre Thaemlitz, Zombie Nation and too many to name.

Strictly Scene:

Right about now it’s Ben Westbeech's Falling (Deetron Acid Remix Dub) that I’m currently spinning on the podcasts, radio shows and gigs. ‘Epic’ doesn't begin to describe this favored masterpiece, but I’m a huge sucker for tracks that trigger a journey!

My Scene:

In the coming months we’re going to establish our brand name Nerdy Frames nationwide and hopefully garner a cult following to get gigs around Auckland and the rest of New Zealand. It’s important for us to get our local support happening and make our name synonymous with dance music out there.

In August Nerdy Frames will be re-launching a new website and a brand new look. I can’t say much until the release but you’ll be the first to know...

Clubs: We have been frequenting small establishments around the area of Kingsland and fell in love with a pub called The Kingslander and Nectar Bar.

DJs: My favorite local DJs at the moment are Cyril Orson who is also one part of The Drunken Apache, and Greg Churchill, a legend and a friend of Nerdy Frames.
