Music Scene:

Micasa - These Streets (Chymamusique Broken-Beat Mix)

  • MI CASA, a new group that hit the South African music scene by storm. Soulcandi’s idea of a remix competition for the abovementioned track, proved to be a blessing for producers such as Chymamusique. His broken beat remix is a dance floor killer and is played by many DJs this side, us included.

Brenda Fassie – Weekend Special (Christos Magic Session)

  • South Africa’s long time hit remade by our very own House legend Christos. People respond and recognize the vocals and the remixes always go down well whenever we play it.

NasteeNev Ft Donald Sheffey – Im So Hung Up On You (Infinite Boys Broken Beat Mix)

  • Having their deep mix of the same track rock the dance floors, you’d swear that, that was enough for them but no Sir; they came up with this smashing hit to top of a splendid EP. The sky is not the limit but infinity is.

There are a number of great tracks that are currently big on this side but these three stands out for us.

Local Scene:

Recently the CTEMF - Cape Town Electro Music Festival was staged in the Cape. The was huge buzz and hype around the whole festival, included performances from the likes of Das Kapital, Pascal & Pearce, Kid Phonque, Julian Gomes, Black Coffee, Gold Fish and more.

The festival itself was a celebration of the electro music scene in South Africa but there was a little bit of fun for everyone. The inclusion of musicians/DJs like Black Coffee, Julian Gomes ensured the success of the festival since their presence there meant that the house and dance lovers were not left out.

At the end of this month (29th & 30th of April) South Africa will be brought to a standstill by the SAMA's - South African Music Awards. This award ceremony showcases a nations' response to the music our local musicians make. A lot of attention will be given to the group Mi Casa who have received five nominations. Some people have argued that Mi Casa have already won the 'Best Dance Album' category but there's stiff competion from duos like Pascal & Pearce and Goodluck.

A new interesting category is the 'Best Remixer' category in which Black Coffee's remix of Marissa Guzman - Time To Go has been nominated. This remix was a world wide hit and we're all expecting Black Coffee to win an award because he surely deserves one.

International DJ Scene:

As Freerange Records were celebrating their 15th anniversary, South Africa was one of the destinations selected to host Jamie Odell a.k.a Jimpster for his tour. We didn’t get a chance to go and check him out but those who were there had a blast.

Strictly Scene:

If you’re a Strictly fan or just want to hear good music, then you have to check out Strictly Rhythm's VOL 20 radio show hosted by Dave Lambert, featuring hot releases such as Manuel De Le Mare & Alex Kenji’s remix of Seamus Haji & Cevin Fisher – I Love the Music, to hits like Carl Kennedy Ft Cheyenne – Once Upon A Time (Original Mix) released und er Subliminal Records.

Recommend it to anyone who has an ear for good music. The show also consists of a 30 minute guest mix by Seamus Haji, hitting you with some Michel Cleis and Bob Sinclar flavor.

My Scene:

Here are a few remixes we’ve done which are set to be released this year:

Brazilian Soul Crew Ft Andre – EU Soul (Zulu’s At Work Soul-Time Mix)

Coming out in August under Grooveland music, Edground, one of the BSC members was given an opportunity to be part of a 3 disc album: Soulful People by Muffin Avenue Music (South Africa) and our very own remix is the first track on his compilation, the album will be available on Soul Candi Records website.

Room 806 ft Grace - Stay With Me (Zulu's At Work pHdLounge Remix)

This is a project recently released (March 6th) on Atal music by our homeboys, Room 806. We were called to remix the track and what we cooked will hopefully blow people away. The label decided to start off by releasing this EP first as an anticipation builder, the remixes will be released sometime next month. So watch the space because when 806 meet with the Zulu’s At Work nothing but fireworks are produced.
