Tres Manos - Barcelona, Spain
Name: Tres Manos aka Your Only Friend
Location: Barcelona, Spain
Occupation: Label Owner / DJ / Producer / Events Promoter
I’m Tres Manos, Co-owner of Barcelona’s “Your Only Friend Recordings” I’m originally from Washington D.C. and began DJing in the Denver underground scene. In 1998 I moved to Barcelona, since then its seems that I’ve managed to have some sort of residency in almost every club in town that played House and have been doing everything I could to keep the city's Underground House scene alive.
Underground House is still pretty big in Barcelona and old school sounding house is definitely making a comeback as well. Below are a couple of hot tracks around town this month:
1. Break My Heart feat. Choklate – Joey Negro, Kola Kube
2. Speak your Mind – Pezzner + Mudder
3. Feel Like Acid – Elastic Orquesta
4. Full Swing – Soulphiction
5. The One (You) – The Groovers
International DJ Scene:
For me, the best international talent that has come through Barcelona lately was Detroit Beatdown and Deep House master Delano Smith!!! He absolutely killed it! We got to chat a little throughout the night and not only is he amazingly talented, he is also a fantastic person that knows how to transmit his good vibe to the people on the dancefloor!
October saw the opening of a new hotspot right in the heart of the city called Factory Club. The troops running the show are quality underground troops, DJs Andre Buljat and Danny Ocean. They have managed to keep the hype strong up til now with a fantastic lineup of international talent such as Stacey Pullen, Moodyman and Midnight Operator, as well as some local Internationally known folks like Funk D’Void and Audiofly.
A really exciting album just came out by a fellow expat like myself that’s living out in Mallorca, Patrick Turner’s just released album “Breaking The Tide” on Dubhe records. The tracks are all proper deep House with amazing baselines and bouncy melodies which totally fits in with the classic Chicago sound I mentioned before. In fact it reminds me a bit of some of Gemini’s stuff back in the day. If you can find it, you should definitely grab it.
As for parties... unfortunately this month saw the closing of a nice little gem in the city, Hush Club. Hush was the home to the city's deepest house party, Red Underground. The Red Underground podcast has put up some of its latest mixes as well as some killer mixes from the ABCDeep monthly party held at Macarena club that are well worth the check out.
Maybe I’m just being nostalgic this month, but all the old House sounds are rocking my world lately. Strictly caught a bit of this in the Romain Curtis & Paul Cayrol - Santiago (Original Mix) release. Played it out the other night and the crowd went nuts!
