Richard Grey, born Richard Christian Rene Jacquin, grew up in Cannes, a small, sparkling, sunny town on the French Riviera with a big reputation as a Summer destination for the rich and fabulous, famous for it’s film festival and well known in the music biz for the annual Midem event, a coming together of label bosses and artists from all over the world.
The twelve year old Richard, already hooked on the club music he was hearing on late night radio, would sneak in to the Midem trade show through one of the back doors of the conference centre, and blag vinyl promos from the unsuspecting label bosses.” I remember Kevin from Nervous Records who was amazed to see a little boy like me asking for promos, I remember him especially as he was the coolest guy over there to share promos with a person who wouldn’t promote his brand. Every year I was there to get those gold records, and the funny thing is that when I entered the business years later, the people recognized me from the old days and were like - You still here? Yes and now I’m making records under the name Richard Grey and here is my promo... hehehe!”
It started to get critical for Richard money-wise and one day he decided to make one last record in the studio which he then sent to Subliminal Records, in which in his opinion the world’s best dance label at the time. Three weeks later he receives a message from Subliminal and there he was back in the music business. Richard moved to New York and continued the fruitful relationship with Erick Morillo and the label, developing his own style of sound, influenced by heroes, Danny Tenaglia, Todd Terry, Deep Dish and David Morales. After that, a move to Ibiza, the summer party capital, and several years at the top of his game extending that impressive discography seemed quite natural.
Richard Grey has now been steadily ascending the dance music hierarchy for the last 10 years thanks in no small part to a discography which includes numerous releases for massive global labels such as Subliminal Records, Illegal Beats, Pacha Recordings, Joia, Gossip and many more. When it comes to huge summer records Richard has consistently had his finger on the pulse of what rocks a dance floor, a knack which translates perfectly to his latest release. Richard has remixed and produced alongside a staggering array of A-list talent including Shakira, Bob Marley, Junior Jack, Armand Van Helden, Harry ´Choo Choo´ Romero, Ron Carroll, Paul Johnson, Robbie Rivera, Sebastian Ingrosso, and of course Erick Morillo to name but a few; a list that more than proves his expertise and prowess in the studio.
Frenchman now resides in Miami with his monthly Ibiza Sessions party set to express a unique uplifting, balearic sound, complemented with exclusive live performances working on his new booming label "Pyramidal Records" founded 2010 with result of a new partnership with Strictly Rhythm. Pyramidal Records is set to release new-wave electronic music from a blend of established, world famous artists and fresh up and coming artists. Stay tuned!
